Winning Friends in the Office is Easy! If you want to re-invent your career and change the way you feel about work there is not time like the present. With Linda's 5 easy tools, your Monday's will be like Friday's in no time!

1. Ice Breakers – It's the power of getting to know each other – the most important time you could spend in building your team is getting to know them better. This January, ask your team to all bring in a few photos of themselves enjoying their lives outside of work. Create a large TEAM board including all of these photos and sit back while everyone shares a bit about what charges them up, outside the office. You will create a stronger, more energized and engaged team, one story at a time. I guarantee it!

2. Project Connect – It's all about the power of learning how to connect with your co-workers - So this "New Year," take on the task of cutting off all cell phone use in meetings. That means, OFF, which means POWERED OFF. No stun, vibrate, text, email. None of it! Go back and try the art of having a conversation. I know it will cause some serious push back from team members but it is time to re-visit how powerful conversations can be.


3. Coming Clean – Learn how honest, authentic communication brings the best out of workers. Sometimes workers remain unhappy at their job, because they feel that they do not have a voice. Let your workers know that everyone has a voice. Honesty brings about creditability, freedom and most importantly TRUST. When we are honest, we build credibility. Being credible simply means that our words line up with the truth. Either we live in the truth or we live in lies. Truth sets us free and lies leave us in nothing but more than the muck and it's incredibly exhausting. When others are able to depend on our word and rely on our actions, we become credible in life and very energized.

4. Ditch Individual Ways and Join the Team - How much trust do you actually have in your team? Can you operate your daily activities knowing your teammates have your back and will absolutely be there for you when needed? Trust is a value, that every team needs to survive and it's one of the most difficult cultures to truly develop, especially in times of insecurity. Start by simply doing what you said you would do. And be respectfully honest with your team mates.


5. When Lines of Communication Go Down – the first thing to remember is to remain calm. You don't want your team to see you flip out over something that has a simple solution. We all have "stuff" that gets piled on our plates and it's easy to shift blame when a problem arises. Don't set yourself up for failure – try working through the problem as a team, finding a solution together with calm suggestions will take the panic to a serene calm in no time.
